Endocrine cells are derived from endocrine progenitors located in the pancreatic epithelium. Endocrine commitment terminates in four major fates: glucagon- producing α-cells, insulin-producing β-cells, somatostatin-producing δ-cells and ghrelin-producing ε-cells.
